8 Steps to Healthy Skin at Every Age

Your skin is a reflection of your overall health, and one of the first things that a person notices about you.

Healthy skin is dependent on several factors. Genetics, environment, diet and skincare habits are some of the basics. You do have control over some of these factors, and there are several steps you can take, right now, to ensure that your skin looks as healthy and beautiful as possible, at any age.

1. Protect Your Skin

One of the best things you can do for your skin is to protect it from harsh UV rays. Sun damage is the number one reason that skin shows age. Sun damage can be caused at any age, even in childhood, although it may not show up until you are in your 30's and 40's. Some of the results of sun damage include brown spots and discoloration, fine lines and "crepiness."

It is never too late to start protecting your skin from the sun, even after damage has been done, you can take action right now to prevent further damage, including skin cancer. Wear a high SPF sunscreen, wear hats and wear sun glasses that have UV protection.

2. Don't Strip Your Skin

Many cleansers that you can buy at your local store are loaded with harsh, chemical ingredients that strip your skin of the natural oils it uses to protect itself. Healthy skin secrets oils that help keep it soft and protect it from environmental damage.

Choose a gentle cleanser with natural ingredients that won't leave your skin unprotected.

3. Hydrate For Healthy Skin

One of the easiest ways to keep your skin looking soft and supple is to drink plenty of water. When you are dehydrated, even just a little bit, it shows on your face. The lack of moisture in the skin means that your face looks less plump.

In addition, drinking plenty of water helps your body remove toxins that can result in irritation and breakouts.

4. Feed Your Face

What you put into your body affects the way your skin looks. Lack of proper nutrition results in skin that is lackluster and tired-looking. Be sure that you are eating a good amount of veggies, protein and healthy fats.

5. Light Therapy

Today's technology is constantly coming up with new ways to achieve and keep healthy skin. One of the newer discoveries is the quest for younger, smoother skin is light therapy. Specifically, red LED and blue LED light. Light therapy has been used in professional dermatologist and esthetician clinics for some time, but it is now available for personal use at home.

6. Clean Your Pores

Clean pores equals clean, radiant skin. It can be difficult to get your skin squeaky clean without stripping it. Many cleansers have harsh chemicals, and just washing your face with your hands may not give you that deep clean that you need.
